Resizing embroidery designs
When it's safe to resize — and when to choose another size.
Embroidery files are made of stitches, not pixels. Changing the size changes how close the stitches are, which affects quality.
The 10% rule
Resizing up or down by about 10% is usually safe in embroidery software. Beyond that, enlarging leaves gaps and thin coverage, and shrinking makes stitches too dense, which can cause thread breaks and stiff patches.
Better options
- Pick the included size closest to what you need — every listed size is in your download.
- Use software that recalculates stitches when resizing (often called "stitch processing").
- Ask us for a new size. Larger changes are best re-digitized.
Never resize these
Lettering with small details, freestanding lace and in-the-hoop projects should always be stitched at their original size.
